5 Audible Books to Instantly Uplift

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I’m totally hooked on audiobooks. I love that I can get a fresh perspective when I’m walking around London or going about my day, audiobooks (and podcasts) are my go-to self improvement tool at the moment and I wanted to share some favourites for anyone looking for inspiration.

Here are my 5 favourite audiobooks for an instant boost of inspiration and motivation throughout the day:

1.Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

I have listened to this book perhaps ten times since I first downloaded it, it is my go-to when I feel as though I need permission to embrace my creativity.

Liz Gilbert invites everyone to embrace their creativity, and shows in this book that being creative isn’t just about painting or writing. It’s about embracing whatever activity or thing lights YOU up.

“Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.”

Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

2.The Power is Within You by Louise Hay

Louise Hay is the original self improvement author. Her voice is soothing and her message is pure inspiration, but she’s not selling anything you don’t already have.

The book dishes out sage wisdom & advice and invites you to reflect on your own patterns, a book to download and listen to if you want to do some self reflection & for a more positive outlook on life.

“If we make a conscious decision not to be victims of the past and go about creating new lives for ourselves, we are supported by this Power within, and new, happier experiences begin to unfold.”

Louise L. Hay, The Power Is Within You

3.You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

You may have seen me mention Jen’s brilliant book before in my post 13 books that changed my life but it’s such a go-to listen for me that it deserves another mention!

I first read this at the beginning of 2016. I had yet to go through a lot of the shifts that happened last year and then my goals centred around getting promoted and losing two stone (that is a story for another day). Inspired by an interview I listened to with Jen Sincero recently, I downloaded the book on Audible & it was the best thing I could have done! Jen get’s it, and she sets up a very practical guide to making shit happen for you and embracing the crazy life and world we live in in all it’s wonder.

“You are perfect. To think anything less is as pointless as a river thinking that it’s got too many curves or that it moves too slowly or that its rapids are too rapid. Says who? You’re on a journey with no defined beginning, middle or end. There are no wrong twists and turns. There is just being. And your job is to be as you as you can be. This is why you’re here. To shy away from who you truly are would leave the world you-less. You are the only you there is and ever will be. I repeat, you are the only you there is and ever will be. Do not deny the world its one and only chance to bask in your brilliance.”

Jen Sincero, You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

4.A Return to Love Workshop: The Basics of A Course in Miracles by Marianne Williamson

Have you read Marianne Williamson’s book A Return to Love: The Basics of A Course in Miracles? It changed my life & perspective on life & love and really helped me to let go of my need to control EVERYTHING (still working on it).

This audiobook of a workshop she held is really accessible – even if you’re not familiar with her work – and is over ten hours of brilliant original content. I listened to the entire thing over three days in Portugal in the sun and I had to keep stopping it to make notes. Let me know what you think if you give it a listen

“We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?”

Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”

5.A Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes

Ohhhh Shonda. I love her shows – Grey’s Anatomy & Scandal to name them – and so when I heard about this book I downloaded it pretty sharpish.

I wouldn’t say that her book is life changing but it is HEARTWARMING & gives you the sort of uplifting advice that you need on a rainy monday morning in May when the sun should be shining but actually you’re still wearing four layers.

I use Audible to get my audiobooks, they got me after a free trial & I’ve stayed loyal ever since. If you want to give them a try, use this link to get a free audiobook (maybe one of the five I recommend below) and I’ll get a few pennies too. It doesn’t cost anything, and if you don’t want to continue just remember to cancel before the month is up!

What are your favourite audiobooks to listen too? I’d love some recommendations … comment below, send me an email or chat to me on instagram.

All my love, L xx
