4 of the Best Audiobooks for Road Trips

It

Keep reading for my list of 4 of the best audiobooks for road trips …

I have done lots of driving recently, spending between 6 and 8 hours in the car a day. Therefore, I have had a lot of time to listen to audiobooks. Now, this list is entirely subjective and really based on the books I like but they’re all great I promise – so maybe you’ll discover something good to listen to too.

A good audiobook for me is about more than great content; it also needs to be well narrated. I switch off and swap audiobooks if I don’t like the narration. It’s a bug bear for me, especially on road trips!!

If you haven’t used Audible before, you can get your first month (and your first audiobook) for free by clicking here!

4 of the Best Audiobooks for Road Trips:

1. Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge

In Audible’s words: Full of passionate, personal and keenly felt argument, Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race is a wake-up call to a nation in denial about the structural and institutional racism occurring in our homes.

Narrated by Reni herself, this book is a searing, illuminating, absolutely necessary exploration of what it is to be a person of colour in Britain today. In addition, it covers issues from eradicated black history to white privilege, the fallacy of ‘meritocracy’ to whitewashing feminism, and the inextricable link between class and race.

I learnt a lot whilst listening to this book, it educated me way beyond anything I learnt at school and led to lots of discussion between myself and other friends who have read it. Subsequently, at 5 hours 53 minutes, it’s a great audiobook for a road trip.

2. Hungry for More: Satisfy Your Deepest Cravings, Feed Your Dreams and Live a Full-Up Life by Mel Wells

I listened to this whilst driving to the airport, and then whilst waiting for my flight. Hungry for More is the perfect pre-holiday listen for your road trip to get you feeling good about yourself.

Mel unveils the psychology and emotions behind eating in this book. She shows you how your approach to food causes a knock-on effect to all other aspects of your life, such as money, relationships, and career. Mel will help you see the truth behind your food patterns and will teach you how to start satisfying your deeper cravings, feeding your dreams, and nourishing your soul to live the life you desire.

Hungry for More is a life-changing book, so one for a road trip alone so you can make sure you are concentrating!

3. The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober: Discovering A Happy, Healthy, Wealthy Alcohol-Free Life by Catherine Gray

In Audible’s words: This inspirational, aspirational and highly relatable narrative champions the benefits of sobriety with a three-pronged approach combining the author’s personal experience; factual reportage and contributions from expert sources; and self-help advice for anyone who wants to reduce their alcohol intake or eliminate it completely. The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober is the new bible of sobriety.

Narrated by Cath herself, this book is an inspirational, informative take on sobriety – and all the benefits that come with a sober life. At just over 10 hours long, it’ll get you from Norfolk to Inverness and you’ll arrive with a whole new perspective on an alcohol free life!

4. You Are a Badass: by Jen Sincero

I’ve recommended this book before but I’ll recommend it again because it is brilliant! I listened to it today as I drove to the gym (not quite a road trip I know). It helped me to reframe my perspective on a few things I’ve been struggling with. “I’m just a fluffy bunny working through my issues” is a much nicer way of speaking to oneself. It replaced my usual inner dialogue of “FFS why can’t you make anything work”.

It’s perfect for anyone looking for some no-nonsense advice for changing their life. Further, this audiobook gives you bite-sized anecdotes to inspire and motivate. It’s narrated by the author, success coach Jen Sincero. This book is just like listening to a wise best friend over a cup of coffee.

In short, You Are a Badass is THE self-help audiobook for people who desperately want to improve their lives but don’t want to get busted doing it.

In conclusion, by the time you arrive at your destination, you’ll understand why you are how you are. Plus, you’ll know how to love what you can’t change. Add to that how to change what you don’t love. AND how to use The Force to kick some serious ass.

So there you have 4 of the best audiobooks for road trips, my favourites for long drives!
